Yeah, well, the Dems are stuffing their pockets like everyone else in our New Land Grab Nation, and who should be surprised? We've really painted ourselves into a corner on every conceivable topic.
- Immigration: Dems have to pander to labor unions who oppose "jobs going overseas" and Reps have to shout "TERROR" like a bigoted Frankenstein all day to make a point. No one's winning anything here.
- Fiscal Policy: remember tax-and-spend Democrats? yeah, now we've got spend-and-spend Republicans and hide-the-cheese Democrats. None of US are seeing the money, but their corporate buddies get bigger severance packages every year and corporate welfare is at an all-time high. Say, how much does gas cost again?
- Personal Rights: don't forget, TERROR! So yeah, we're going to need you to keep that phone line open so we can listen in, ok? Ah the Dems are OK with you being a private nutjob, unless of course you want to hack your digital TV so you can record your shows on VHS. Then, I'm afraid, they put you in Copyright Violators Jail, which is under the jail where they put the pedophiles.
Now let's all forget our troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream!
Boy, those puppetmasters have a hard time stepping out of the power shoes, don't they? Of course, the World Bank board accepted Wolfie's contention that he didn't do anything wrong...
Because, if any of us were ever in a position to score our significant other a fat job with a fat paycheck without having to go through all those messy HR issues... I mean, that's pretty standard, right? We've all done it, yeah? No one says boo, right? Riiiiiiiight. We all know that we'd be fired in an instant if us "peons" acted in such a way. Hell, last year I took one of those "standards of business practices" training sessions and they said you can't do this crap!
But the rules don't apply when you are rich and powerful. We all know this. And here's your proof. Wolfie will walk away richer than ever, no penalties, not even the admission of any hint of the possibility of wrongdoing. What a great role model for kids-- doing whateverthefuck you want kids, just be sure to be rich and powerful! I guess that's some sort of incentive?
Now if only Gonzalez would quit sacrificing goats and resign... Oh wait, he didn't do anything wrong either!
I'm one of those people with a very small but tight group of friends. And the one guy that has stuck with me through the ages is my buddy Trent. He's become more of a domesticated cat these days, but nothing can dull his humor. I really wish I could sit down and write a movie, TV series or book with him. But then, it might only be funny to us.
Anyway, here's a portion of an email he recently sent. I had been going on about video games (I teach classes in game design), and here was his response:
"If you are able to tear yourself from your electronics, there are many other marvelous games to play, including:
"Low Coolant"
Tales of an automotive warning light that refuses to extinguish in the wife's car
"Hunt for the blue handled hacksaw"
Lost in action, soothsayers unable to divine, can you find the hacksaw before the angry husband whips some ass?
"God Damned neighbor's cats"
Use your skills to stop a feline turd invasion on your personal property
"The garbage only runs on Tuesday morning"
A classic brain twister and game of memory
"Burn permit, we don't need no stinking burn permit"
Burn all the leaves and brambles before being caught by the fire chief
"Supervise your children and their friends doing anything that remotely resembles outdoor work"
A test of patience and possibly a complete waste of time
"Alignment"
Imagine you are a hillbilly redneck, you drive a truck with "THE LONG WHEELBASE" You muster you skills to find a repair shop with an alignment rack long enough for you truck. Unfortunately there are only 3 such shops in town. Two of which you "no longer trade with" due to "police instructions." No official restraining order has been issued, but the nice officer did not arrest you when you threatened to beat the service manager like "an angry monkey fucking his sister" The one shop in which "the law" has not gotten involved will only see you on Tuesdays between 10:00am and 10:30am. Hurry! before the tires prematurely wear and you spend a week's paycheck on a new set of tires.
Oddly, the only time I could get me truck aligned is about the same time the garbage runs - on Tuesday morning!! Life is a strange game with all kinds of wild turns."
So Bush has what, 18 months left? And we're JUST NOW launching an investigation into Karl Rove? Come on! Within a few months of Clinton being in office the shitstorm began-- investigation after investigation, from Whitewater to haircuts, bj's to damn near anything else the man did... But Rove has orchestrated a near Theocratic dictatorship and we're gonna get to the bottom of it in a year? Yeah, right. Nothing much will come of this, and it smacks of political parlay. Make a little noise to pretend you're "keeping it real" and that'll make us trust Republicans again, somehow.
In other news, Rush blames Cho's actions on his "being a liberal" and a Republican congressman from California admonishes a crowd, saying he hopes they suffer from a terrorist attack because they dared groan when he made an asinine comment in a hearing. Oh, and the Army lied about so many things even the Army can't keep track.
Times like this make me want to get into politics... a truly scary thought indeed.
Scanning around the channels tonight we heard some talking head on the news say something about Imus (shock!) and how his comments have started the debate about racism, proper words, etc... Say what? Not to blow a hyperbole out of proportion, but that's ridiculous.
Here's the thing. It is true that Imus, his statement, and the ensuing storm have reinvigorated the race debate. That's a little sad, frankly. Years of debate, struggle, war and bitterness didn't do it. Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, W.E.B. Du Bois, Charles Drew, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X-- they all played their part. But this Imus thing, THAT will be the beginning of the conversation huh?
Glad to see the collective memory banks are as long-lasting as a fruit fly. I'm all for the conversation, don't get me wrong. I just don't see how a stupid mistake has to lead to one of the biggest issues we have faced in this country since the first white dudes showed up on the shore.
What were you doing one year ago today?

Slaving away for ITT, teaching a full load of multimedia classes, blogging my butt off, and dreaming of something better.
Happy to say, I got to that better place. Not that there isn't room for improvement, but I can't complain about working flexible hours at home for better pay!
I don't care what the US Bureau of Labor would tell you, but parenting has the highest rate of people quitting. I know, it's not a "job." Of course, any Parent (with a capital P) will tell you otherwise. It is not only a job, but it should be a career. You can't quit. If you do, we all have to work harder.
So tonight, for example, we had to mop up another parent's mess. My daughter has a Queen Bee she's been following at school. A little girl who has decided to be the Alpha Bitch, and foists her ignorant opinions onto other girls. Her parents allow her to watch completely age-inappropriate crap like "Cheetah Girls" and "Hannah Montana." She's FIVE!
As I'm putting B in bed, she tells me, "when I go back to school," (she's on Spring Break) "I'm going to tell A**** that Cheetah Girls and Hannah Montana are for older girls, not for us." I was so proud. I hope she really does put her foot down. I hope my girl has the security, strength and sense of being that will allow her to be herself in the face of Queen Bee Stupidity.
If you've ever seen "Mean Girls" you know what I'm talking about!
We had our first meditation session today. Sitting, breathing, a moment of relaxation and she was REALLY into it! Gonna try that again and again this week. We could all use the reflective time :)
To Bush's Volpone:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/15/attorneys.rove/index.html
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Rove is the puppetmaster. Bush can't possibly comprehend the world he lives in, nor can he bend it to his will. But Rove is a master manipulator in a way that must make even the most stalwart KGB wackos cringe.
His suggestion to not replace all the US attorneys for the 2nd term? Genius. I can't believe it was considered as an idea, but ol' Rovey realized such a broad stroke would be unwise. Never tip your hand, eh buddy?
We don't have anyone in the streets doing much in the way of sounding the alarm, but a fish rots from the head down.
US AG Gonzalez sez about the firings of several US attorneys... Yeah, he should have. As in, "I wish we could fire anyone we deemed politically unfit for our purposes."
I used to make a habit of knocking baby boomers, but right now I'm feeling pretty unfriendly towards my own generation... How bad does the Bush administration have to desecrate our Constitution before there is any outcry whatsoever? I mean, if you look historically, this administration has done so much to trample the rights of Americans, to undo the last 50 years of political progress.
In terms of freedom personally and financially, we are MUCH worse off now than we were 10 years ago. Ask the people who got shoddy loans and are having their houses taken away. Ask the military wife who had to sell blood to buy her kids Christmas presents (don't bother asking the guy who runs the factory making unusable body armor though-- he just threw a $10 million bat mitzvah for his daughter). Ask the millions who are back on government assistance (remember, Clinton took the roster down to a 30-year low). Ask the accountants in the Treasury who witness our huge debt to foreign nations...
Absolutely chilling what is happening in DC, and only slightly more frightening how we aren't responding with outrage.
